Sled, El Toro #11477
I have a Certificate of Completion in wood Technology from Laney College and seven years experience as a marine cabinetmaker and boatbuilder. I have worked on projects that included one Santa Cruz 52 and two Coastal Flyer 39 foot powerboats constructed for Santa Cruz Yachts in Soquel, California.

I have extensive experience in wooden boatbuilding technologies, both traditional and wood-epoxy. I spent a year and a half restoring the 73 foot wood Tugboat Go-Getter, a historic 1923 wood vessel that was the mascot for the city of Newport Oregon.
I also constructed a wood/epoxy El Toro named Sled that won the 1997 Junior North American Championships. Sled is a wood/epoxy El Toro that I built in my Santa Cruz garage in 1991.

I restored a 1957 wood Thistle (#1075, see below) that’s bright finished and still winning races today.

Here is Thistle 1075 as she looked in 2017. She's well cared for by her current owner.

I spent a year and a half helping Joe Heinzman in the rebuild of this 73' wood tugboat. It was built in Washington in 1923 and designed, I believe, by Ted Geary.
